Jude Welter has been a professional artist since 1975, showing in galleries in Montana, Washington, and Oregon. In the early 1980s, she opened a gallery in Oregon City with her family in the historic Fellows House in the Canemah District. This was an ideal setting for her artwork as she loved to do detailed watercolors and pen and ink renderings of historic buildings and places. Eventually, the Fellows House also became known for its daily luncheons and was a wonderful meeting place in the community. Artists such as Stephen Lyman, Robert Sherwood and Reba Owen were just a few of the creative talents who showed their paintings at the Fellows House. Great craftsmen such as 'Mud Pie Pottery' and Joe Halko bronzes also were featured at the Fellows House Gallery. Terry Welter did beautiful custom framing from the building which made it a complete experience for art enthusiasts.
Jude also became very active in the Community Education system and taught weekly classes throughout Clackamas County. Countless painters who began with Jude are now professional artists in their own right. Although retired at this time, Jude leads an enplenair class in painting or drawing on the Oregon Coast. Numerous awards and showings in galleries over the years have made it possible to collect Jude's artwork as it continues to change and evolve. Currently, Jude works and shows from her studio in Oregon City. She participated in the 'Open Studios of Beavercreek' which was begun from her studio and then enhanced and expanded by a wonderful group of area artists. Although this art tour has been scaled back, Jude continues to show work from her studio by private appointment and a few special openings during the year. Use the 'contact' page to be put on the mailing list. The popular 'Picket Fence Art Show' venue was organized so that Jude's student painters could show and possibly sell their work. There was no need to mat or frame the artwork as long as there was a picket fence nearby to hang and show the paintings. Spending time in beautiful Tillamook County has opened a new door of subjects and opportunities for Jude. Several workshops and classes are held there during the year, so please use 'contact page' for more information! Although paintings on this website are not listed for sale, you can contact Jude to find out what's available in her studio for purchase. Commissions are often times accepted.
